A good question I love to ask people is what is their motivations and they really either have nothing to say or a lot to say to explain what motivates them. The question might seem like a broad question but it can actually be simplified into six categories:

    1. Recognition and appreciation. I started with this one first as this is my Achilles heel, it’s the urge to prove your point and be recognized by others and appreciated for it.
    2. Challenge, pride and wanting to be the best. This can be best explained via Mohammed Ali

“I hated every minute of training, but I said, ‘Don’t quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.’”

    3. Power & fame. They are leaders who will always be trying to achieve reach higher level of fame and power aka stars and Politicians
    4. Helping others. These are the people who are motivated and driven to help others and to make the world a better place.
    5. Money and materialistic gains. Plain and simple to get rich!
    6. The passion. Some people are so passionate about what they do feel what they do is an art that they only want to express.
You might ask why is it important to know what drives you, but knowing what fuels can help you accomplish wonders. Zig Ziglar said:

Motivation is like bathing, you have to do it every day. Without motivation, you will never have the drive to take action. And without action, you can never reach your goals and live your dreams.

So what is your motivation? What is your Ikigai? In Japanese culture, there is something called Ikigai ( pronounced [ikiɡai]) which means “a reason for being.”. Finding it requires a deep and often lengthy search of self.Start by finding what your love? what are you good at? Is it paid? Will it serve the world?
So what’s the connection between ikigai and motivation? I can consider the most successful people are those who have found their ikigai and fuels it to reach the stars by there motivation.
